Hobsons Bay named 2009 Victorian Sustainable City

Hobsons Bay City Council has been named Victoria’s 2009 Sustainable City at the Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria (KABV) Sustainable Cities Awards.

Council submitted 14 nominations in the KABV Sustainable Cities and Clean Beaches Awards for a selection of Council and community projects. Seven of these projects were finalists and three projects won in their respective categories.

Chair of Council’s Sustainable Environment Advisory Group, Councillor Angela Altair, said the accolade puts Hobsons Bay on the map for being a leader in sustainability.

“This award acknowledges the effort that Council and the community put in to make Hobsons Bay a shining example of what can be achieved by working together towards a sustainable community,” she said.

Mayor of Hobsons Bay, Councillor Peter Hemphill, said the award recognises that Hobsons Bay is moving towards its sustainability targets.

“All of the projects that were named as finalists share a common vision of creating an environmentally sustainable future through caring for the environment today,” he said.

Council was a finalist in seven categories and won three of these as follows:
