Rockhampton Regional Council is applauding loudly and proudly two of its managers who were selected as the Professional Manager of the Year and the Young Manager of the Year in the Australian Institute of Management’s (AIM) Management Excellence Awards for Central Queensland in September.
Council’s Strategic Manager for the Rockhampton Airport, David Blackwell, was announced the Professional Manager of the Year for Central Queensland, while Strategic Manager for People, Performance and Wellbeing, Barbara Miller, was named Central Queensland’s Young Manager of the Year.
Rockhampton Regional Council CEO Alastair Dawson was thrilled with the double win, saying both David and Barbara were well deserving winners of these prestigious awards, having gone head to head with a very competitive and well credentialled field of public and private sector managers in the region.
“Their selection showcases to our region that Council is working hard on developing our leadership and we are very proud of their achievements,” Alastair Dawson said.
David Blackwell has led a successful team in building a profitable and very progressive airport that services the region well. While flights were being cancelled at the height of the economic downturn, David has been instrumental in keeping growth happening at the airport, ensuring there is a strong vision for the future of the facility.
Together with Council’s Business Enterprise Group, David is firmly on track to continue to develop that future.
Barbara Miller has played an important part in the transitional activities and direction of the new regional Council.
Alastair Dawson said that at such a young age, Barbara had accomplished a great deal.
He said that she is a highly respected member of Council’s leadership team, having played an important role in shifting corporate culture, establishing improved work practices and wellbeing strategies for the organisation.
Both David and Barbara will go on to contest the 2009 Australian Institute of Management’s (AIM) Queensland Managers of the Year, which will be announced at the Queensland Gala Dinner Final in Brisbane on 13 November.
