Parkes Shire Council in central west New South Wales is gearing up to host the next Annual National Local Government Touch Carnival on 27 February 2010.
First held in 1993, the weekend, which is sponsored by Country Energy, generally attracts around 40 teams, including some from Victoria and Queensland and about half from Sydney, with around 600 players in total.
Tournament organiser and Parkes Manager Economic Development, Michael Greenwood, said the carnival provides an opportunity for council teams from across the country to travel to Parkes and do something that is healthy and fun, while socialising and mixing with others outside the realms of the work environment.
“The carnival is open to staff from all Australian councils, allied organisations and their families, through either men’s or mixed touch football teams,” he said.
“It is a social competition to vie for the title of the fittest and most skilful organisation and it is a great networking opportunity.
“Both the men’s and mixed teams can have an unlimited number of reserves, so get a group from your council together and head to Parkes this February!”
