Experience the change – experience Burwood

Burwood has changed a lot over the last ten years, turning into a lively business and shopping centre during the day, and a vibrant dining and entertainment destination in the evening. Its the perfect mix of old meets new.

A stroll down Burwood Road will take visitors past grand historic mansions that have been elaborately restored, but just metres from the historic grandeur, there is the hustle and bustle of Burwood’s thriving CBD, with its amazing variety of shops to cater to everyone’s needs.

Thanks to a complex program of urban furniture, paving, planter boxes, pedestrian facilities and outdoor dining policies, Burwood Road is now one of Sydney’s most popular ‘eat streets’.

There is a fusion of cuisines available at the alfresco dining areas, from steaming hot pizza and pasta to elaborate Middle Eastern plates, and some fantastic Asian restaurants.

Burwood also has some of Sydney’s best coffee shops and cafés serving whatever the coffee connoisseur fancies. And every night, thousands of people enjoy the colourful mix of Burwood under the stylish flags and fairy lights that decorate the CBD.

Looking for a quieter corner? Burwood’s parks are pristine and contain playground facilities, space for sports and plenty of open ground for a family picnic. And if you are after some outdoor fun, you can’t miss Burwood’s exciting program of civic events, which attract over 350,000 people to the area every year.

Burwood Festival is certainly the most renowned. With some 90,000 visitors last year, it became one of the biggest community events in Sydney. The Festival is the culmination of a month of spring celebrations held in September across the whole Local Government Area.

Increasingly popular is Burwood’s Food and Wine Festival. This year, Council is growing the event to a fantastic four day program, titled Ice Blue. It will be packed with activities for the whole family to enjoy, including an ice skating rink, blues concert, fireworks and winter lights show.

There’s plenty more on the calendar, so make sure you join Burwood for some shopping, dining or one of our great events, and witness the change!
