Community based Environment
Advisory Committee
Last year Mount Alexander Shire established a community based Environment Advisory Committee to provide Council with advice and support on environment and sustainability issues. It will also help to guide Council as a new Environment Strategy is developed and implemented in 2010.
The committee is made up of ten community members, two Councillors and Council officers. The community representatives bring a wide range of expertise in areas including environmental sustainability, biodiversity protection, waste management, economic development, community engagement, public health, natural resource management, education and advocacy.
Regular meetings are being held as the new Environment Strategy is developed.
The Environment Strategy 2010–2014 will consider and link relevant responsibilities and actions from existing strategies and plans to protect and enhance the Mount Alexander natural environment.
