Mayor’s message

Just a short drive from the city but a world away from the stress, Bayside is a unique part of Melbourne.

It strikes the perfect balance between the noise and the bustle of the CBD and leafy residential peace.

The City of Bayside boasts 17 kilometres of foreshore, beautiful parks, beaches and reserves, world class golf courses, great schools and friendly shopping villages.

We also have wonderful events from foreshore celebrations to literary festivals.

Bayside is safe, family friendly and a great place to work and live. Residents and their Council are equally proud of their vibrant home and committed to its future.

Small retailers thrive in Bayside because residents love to shop locally. Council supports businesses by offering great opportunities through business and tourism networks and various traders’ associations.

Council works hard to achieve the best outcomes for all community members.

The Bayside 2020 Community Plan, designed to help build Bayside’s future, is almost complete, thanks to over a thousand residents who contributed to the consultation process.

Bayside’s seven Councillors are from diverse backgrounds and have the common goal of “making Bayside an even better place”. Council wants to preserve and enhance valued aspects of Bayside’s heritage as well as address changing needs.

Part of Council’s vision is to protect and enhance Bayside’s famous liveability in the way it influences the built environment. Council this year committed $16.5 million to capital works that included community buildings and improving roads, pedestrian and bicycle paths and sports grounds. Much of the work is complete or well underway.

Council encourages and rewards environmental sustainability in design and is dedicated to preserving our natural heritage and reducing our ecological footprint. We have been judged the leading Victorian Council for investing in environmentally sustainable products.

Bayside is a wonderful place to live, work, go to school and visit.
