Sutherland Shire to host peak tourism forum

Royal National Park: conference delegates will have the chance to explore the park and experience a Discovery Walk

Sutherland Shire Council is making preparations to welcome hundreds of delegates when it hosts the 2011 Local Government and Shires Association Tourism Conference in March.

‘Gone Fishing Back Soon’ is the theme of the conference, which is NSW only Local Government focused tourism forum.

To be held at council’s new state of the art Engadine Community Facilities the conference will examine topics including Local Government’s engagement with tourism and focus on changing markets and trends, maximising benefits from tourism for the community and destination marketing.

Delegates will be offered the opportunity to visit the Royal National Park, to dine in one of the region’s premier beachfront restaurants, and to take part in an Aboriginal tourist cruise along the Port Hacking River.

Sutherland Shire Council will discuss its own program of support to its local tourism industry through its ‘Shire Tourism’ program, and Tourism NSW will discuss the relationship between tourism and Local Government.

Operators and tourism experts will offer advice from their own experience about maximising the benefits of tourism and events and planning for the long term future of the industry.
