Recognising innovation

Council has a number of awards winning programs including the following.

Accolades for Riverconnect

A program connecting local communities and agencies to improve river health received the prestigious Parks Victoria Environment and Sustainability Award in the 2010 Regional Achievement and Community Awards.

Called RiverConnect, the program facilitates, resources and supports partner organisations (including Greater Shepparton City Council, Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority, Parks Victoria and Yorta Yorta), to work together to strengthen the community sense of custodianship of the river environment.

RiverConnect is currently developing a five year strategic plan as a foundation for ongoing future sustainability and effective program delivery.

Resource Recovery Precinct Award

Greater Shepparton’s Resource Recovery Precinct has taken out a prestigious World Environment Day business award.

The Precinct received the Virgin Blue Business Awards for Best Specific Environmental Initiative at the United Nations Association of Australia World Environment Day Awards.

The precinct is a partnership between Greater Shepparton City Council and Goulburn Valley Water which accommodates a range of commercial businesses include prescribed waste and septic receiving, waste water conversion for irrigation use, biogas for renewable energy production and conversion of green waste to compost.

A great place for small business

The Greater Shepparton Business Centre is in the top six regional business enterprise centres in Australia.

The centre received the honour at the 2010 Business Enterprise Centre’s (BEC) Australia Awards for Performance and is one of just a few centres in Australia wholly owned and funded by a Council.

The centre focuses on the incubation of new and emerging small business, provides a stepping stone for home-based businesses, offers training and meeting room facilities and hosts a range of small business training programs. Go to www.sheppartonbusiness.com.au
