Frankston City Council has elected one of Victoria’s youngest ever Mayors with 24 year old Councillor Kristopher Bolam. This follows his recent swearing in as a Justice of the Peace by the State Attorney General and he was already among the youngest to be appointed to that office.
The new Mayor was elected as a Councillor for the North West Ward in November 2008, and became the youngest elected representative in Frankston City’s history.
Councillor Bolam aims to make his Mayoral office open and accessible to the public. He regards his new full time role as a huge privilege that comes with great responsibility.
“I recognise Frankston’s potential and I’m keen to improve its image,” he said. “I am a supporter of good governance measures and I believe ratepayers have the right to have an open, accountable and ethical local government. I am looking forward to rolling up my sleeves to continue building a working consensus to tackle the many issues facing Frankston City.”
The youngest Mayor in Victoria’s history was former Australian Local Government Association (ALGA) President Councillor Geoff Lake from Monash City Council. He was first elected to Monash Council in March 2000 at the age of 20 and became the State’s youngest ever Mayor at 22.
