No visit to the Tweed is complete without a trip to the Tweed River Art Gallery at Murwillumbah. The Gallery is housed in a large, modern purpose-built facility surrounded by beautiful gardens and lawns. The gallery was established on this site in 2004, and was extended in 2006.
There are magnificent panoramic views of the Tweed River, Mount Nullum, Wollumbin/Mount Warning, Border Ranges and surrounding fields from the Gallery, with indoor and outdoor seating available at the café.
The Gallery boasts a world-class collection of portraits representing Australians from all walks of life.
Two exhibition spaces host changing selections of contemporary and historical portraits from the gallery’s collection.
Traditional and contemporary landscapes can be seen in a range of media, including
works on paper, glass, ceramics, wood and fibre.
The program includes the CPM National Print Award, the $20,000 Olive Cotton Award for photographic portraiture, the Border Art Prize for artists of the region public programs and workshops.
