Boroondara City Council has beaten some of Australia’s major corporations, not for profit and public sector organisations to win a premier award for its 2009–10 Annual Report.
In June, Boroondara, located in Melbourne’s inner east, received the award for Best Annual Report for 2009–10 at the Australasian Reporting Awards (ARA).
Boroondara CEO Catherine Dale was pleased with the honour.
“Winning this award this year is particularly special because of the high quality entries from around Australia and from such a diversity of sectors,” she said.
Council beat leading national and international companies such as BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto, Wesfarmers, Boral and major banks, as well as leaders in the not for profit and public sector, to claim the prize for best annual report.
The report reflects Boroondara Council’s strong commitment to open and transparent government for our community.
“The ARA made it clear in presenting the award that our open and transparent reporting, even in areas where predicted outcomes hadn’t been met, set us apart as a clear winner,” Catherine Dale said. “Our annual report clearly presents Council’s activities, achievements and challenges for the year and according to the judges is a model of open and honest reporting.”
For the fourth year in a row, the City of Boroondara also received a Gold Award for its Annual Report at the ARA event. Boroondara’s award winning Annual Report was again honoured at a recent Municipal Association of Victoria awards ceremony in Melbourne.
It received a joint honourable mention, alongside Greater Geelong City Council for Best Annual Report 2009-2010.
Council received awards from the MAV in the high resource category as well, including one for best financial overview and a joint victory for best reporting on sustainability, shared with Manningham City Council.
There was also an honourable mention for the City of Boroondara for best reporting on performance.
Catherine Dale said she was pleased and proud of the tireless contribution and commitment to continuous improvement from all staff across the organisation who contribute to the reporting process, particularly Boroondara’s Business Development and Financial Services team.
Other gold award winners were City of Greater Geelong, City of Kingston, City of Ryde, Stonnington City Council, Glen Eira City Council, an Gold Coast City Council.
