Completion of the Main Corner Development will strengthen the Civic and Cultural heart of Mount Gambier by providing a powerful presence in the City Centre.
When complete the facility will complement and add value to the new Library and Community Centre, the Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre, Civic Centre and Old Town Hall and will add a modernisation to public realm assets, renew heritage buildings and will complete Mount Gambier’s community ‘place’ to Live. Learn. Imagine.
The day to day management and program development of the Main Corner complex after completion will remain an internal function of Council.
Integration of the facility with all existing Council spaces and the development of the programs and events that serve the community is the primary focus for Council. It is important that the new facility becomes the Peoples Place and adds value to the increasingly vibrant Civic Precinct within the City.
Council is working with the community to develop a vibrant and dynamic Main Corner precinct that encompasses the City’s slogan – Live. Learn. Imagine.
The Main Corner precinct with the correct mix of programming, marketing and community access will also play a vital role in expanding Mount Gambier’s social, community, economic and cultural infrastructure and intellectual capability.
