In a competitive market where many employers are finding it difficult to attract and retain a skilled workforce, Rockhampton Regional Council is setting trends.Rockhampton is one of the region’s largest employers, with more than 1,200 staff.
Council’s efforts and commitment to helping people with a disability, injury or health condition to get and keep a job within the organisation has been recognised with a Commonwealth Rehabilitation Service Australia Employer of Choice Award for Queensland.
Rockhampton Regional Council CEO Evan Pardon congratulated Council’s People, Performance and Wellbeing Unit for the great work in connecting the right people with the right jobs within the organisation.
"The awards recognise and promote organisations that successfully attract and retain skilled staff and we’ve found that in providing leadership, respect and responsibility for our employees, we foster a happy work environment," he said. "A job is more than just ‘a job’ for many people and especially for those with injury, a health condition or a disability, and I’m proud of Council’s achievements in helping so many people find satisfaction in their career."
