The multi million upgrade works that transformed the Nebo Road Water Treatment Plant have won an award at the annual Institute of Public Works Engineering Australia Queensland (IPWEAQ) Awards.
The annual awards are presented to encourage excellence in the innovation, development, completion and management of Local Government and public works projects across Queensland.
The Nebo Road Water Treatment Plant received the top gong in the design and construction of a project over $10 million category.
Council’s Water and Wastewater Portfolio Councillor Deirdre Comerford said the award is testament to the significant work carried out by those involved.
“It is great to see the infrastructure we built here in Mackay take out first place across the state.”
“I am thrilled and congratulate everyone involved in the project, particularly the Mackay Infrastructure Alliance who worked on the project.”
The $26 million upgrade has increased the plant’s peak capacity from 55 megalitres a day to 74 megalitres a day.
Deidre Comerford said the work was an investment in the region’s future.
“This facility can now service our growing population for the next 10 years.” she said.
“It also provides improved water quality and environmental outcomes.”
The upgraded facility was commissioned in May this year, and forms part of the major infrastructure plan to provide a reliable, secure and safe water supply to the community.
