Safety first for Logan City Council

A unique pace car is keeping motorists in check and making school zones safer throughout Queensland’s Logan City Council.

Deputy Mayor and Logan Road Safety Advisory Committee Chairman Russell Lutton said the pace car had patrolled half of Logan’s schools since its launch last year. The car has signs and flashing lights warning motorists to slow down.

“The unique pace car is a visible reminder to motorists of the importance of keeping to the 40km/hr speed limit around schools, particularly during drop-off and pick-up times,” Cr Lutton said.

“It has attracted positive feedback from the community and has played a role in achieving a marked decrease in speeding incidents around school zones.”

Council has partnered with the Queensland Police Service, the Department of Transport and Main Roads, RACQ and Queensland Health for the SafeRoads4Logan campaign, which aims to reduce road deaths and serious accidents across the city by 10 percent by 2013.
