A draft Violence Prevention Plan has been endorsed by the City of Greater Bendigo Council and released for community feedback.
Mayor Cr. Sandner said this is the first plan of its kind in Bendigo with two main objectives building on the position statement that ‘Greater Bendigo City Council says NO to Violence against Women.’
“The City will offer a range of policies, in conjunction with other organisations and community members to promote the services available to assist those affected by violence and increase awareness”, said Cr Sandner.
“Secondly, the City will be a role model in the adoption of organisational strategies to reduce the risk of violence in the community and increase staff awareness of services available for those impacted by violence.
“Council understands that violence in any form is a serious and preventable health issue and does not condone the use of violence in any form towards any member of the community.
“Working in partnership with the community and key service providers, we can create a municipality that is gender equitable, respectful and inclusive.
“It starts with changing people’s attitudes and behaviours towards violence, especially in our younger generation.”
