The Bundaberg Regional Council (BRC) has funded eight projects,
including workshops, music and opera, in the latest round of grants from
the Regional Arts Development Fund.
Bundaberg Regional Council Mayor, Councillor Mal Forman, said that the recent round of funding from the Regional Arts Development Fund — a partnership between the Queensland Government and regional councils — would see projects totaling $50,000.
“This includes funding for Bundaberg and District South Sea Islanders to host workshops on traditional skills as part of the ‘OLGETA – Blackbirding Blong Bundaberg’ event, which celebrates the 150th anniversary of the arrival of the first South Sea Islander workers in Queensland.
“The Bundaberg Region has many talented artists, musicians and groups whose professional development will be key in their continued success,” said Cr Forman.
The Queensland Government’s Minister for the Arts, Ros Bates, said that the Regional Arts Development Fund supports more than 3000 arts and cultural projects each year in communities across the state.
“The State Government allocation in 2012-2013 is $2.083 million on top of another $1.5 million from Queensland councils. This means more than $3.5 million is available for arts projects across the state.
“The Regional Arts Development Fund is a state-wide partnership between the Queensland Government and local councils, and shows our support for local arts and culture.
“Regional Arts Development Fund projects are local projects selected by communities in line with their cultural priorities,” said Ms Bates.
