Shoalhaven City Council has assisted in the coordination of a two-day interagency emergency services training camp at Jervis Bay in August.
A host of agencies participated across the weekend, including representatives from the NSW Police Force, Rural Fire Service, NSW Ambulance Service, State Emergency Service (SES) and Marine Rescue.
The weekend training camp saw participating emergency services personnel faced with a host of separate challenges culminating a mock rescue scenario involving all agencies.
Shoalhaven Mayor Joanna Gash said the weekend provided an important opportunity for local emergency service organisations to combine in a mock scenario.
“This weekend’s training camp provided the area’s local emergency service organisations with an extremely valuable combined training opportunity.
“This training allowed the participating organisations to learn invaluable local knowledge and fine tune the way in which major accidents are responded to.
“Council plays a vital role in many emergency scenarios as was demonstrated during the recent floods and bushfires that impacted on the area.
“It goes without saying that the area’s emergency service organisations do an amazing job in keeping the community safe.”
