Baseball reserve improves security

Cyril Molyneaux Reserve, located in the City of Casey, is set to receive funding for more than $20,000 funding for safety improvements through a Victorian Government Public Safety Infrastructure Fund grant.

The Hon Edward O’Donohue MLC, Member for Eastern Victoria Region and Minister for Crime Prevention visited the reserve for the announcement that is the home of two local baseball clubs.

City of Casey Mayor Councillor Geoff Ablett said the reserve is a valuable local asset, and these grants will be used to make much needed improvements.
“Unfortunately, the reserve has been subject to anti-social behaviour, including six break-ins over the past 12 months.

“To combat these incidents, Council will improve safety measures to minimise the chance of these incidents occurring again.

“Council thanks the State Government for its contribution of $22,024 towards the facility’s safety improvements’, said Cr Ablett.

With an estimated cost just over $27,000 the improvements will address property damage issues, reduce anti-social behaviour and improve the perception of public safety.

“Council acknowledges the Department of Justice for its ongoing support of Casey’s efforts to improve the safety of our community.

“Funding opportunities such as the Public Safety Infrastructure Grants provide much needed support to local government to address crime and safety related concerns within local communities.”

The reserve is named after local resident Cyril Molyneaux, a Mayor and Councillor of the former City of Berwick.
