Woodland Waters open for business

The City of Whittlesea’s premier sports ground Woodland Waters, now known as Waterview Community Reserve, is open for business.

The Mernda Football Club, junior and senior teams, have tested the quality of the pitch and will train on the grounds for the remainder of the footy season.

“These sports grounds look fantastic and I’m excited that the local community are already enjoying these grounds so close to home,” Mayor Mary Lalios said.
Council has invested approximately $5.1m in delivering the first stage of the reserve’s development that includes the two sports ovals and an off road car park for over 250 cars.

“The delivery of this great community asset will provide the growing Mernda/Doreen population with much needed community sport and recreation opportunities that would not be possible without partner funding from the Australian Government ($2.5m) and Victorian Government ($708,333).

“We very much appreciate this vital support.”

The development of the reserve will continue with a multi-purpose community pavilion, an outdoor multi-use sports training facility and other sports infrastructure such as ball catching fences and scoreboard.

The reserve will be the official home to the Mernda Football, Mernda Cricket and Mernda Calisthenics Clubs and provide many other formal and informal opportunities for the community to meet, play, connect and be active into the future.

Other features to come in future years include sports practice nets for cricket, netball and football training needs, landscaping and pathways.

This new facility will complement the existing shared pathways, playground, picnic facility and plantings.
