Support services settle in to new home

With the completion of construction work, Maranoa Regional Council has opened the new $2.56 million Roma Community Hub.

The construction of the hub was funded by Maranoa Regional Council ($1.06 million), the Australia Pacific LNG Project and Santos GLNG (each providing $500,000) and the State Department of Local Government, Community Recovery and Resilience ($500,000).

Spread over 691m2 and housing 34 office areas, three interview rooms, a training room, kitchen and mothers’ room, the hub means the Maranoa community can access essential social services, both Council and external, under the same roof.

Mayor Robert Loughnan said the hub is vital for the community to access essential services in times of need while also being functional in design.

“The new hub, being similar to the Roma Neighbourhood Centre, is a ‘one-stop-shop’ for all community services, providing Maranoa residents with access to specialist support, programs and resources.

“The new building design means a larger space for service providers to coordinate activities and meetings while ensuring clients receive high quality and individual service.”

Member for Warrego Howard Hobbs MP said there was obviously a need for a larger facility to house the essential services for the Roma district.

“The recently completed Community Hub will provide an environmentally friendly, convenient and accessible venue to accommodate these services.

“The State Government is pleased to contribute to this worthy project and will continue to assist Roma and district with projects such as this for many years to come.”

Services currently available at the hub include community support, emergency relief, home and community care, family support services, specialist homelessness services, and community housing.
