Brimbank City Council is taking the next step towards seeing the $8.9 million redevelopment of Errington Community Centre.
At a recent Council Meeting, Council gave the go ahead for the contract documentation phase of the redevelopment to proceed.
Brimbank Chair of Administrators John Watson said that Council can now proceed to call for tenders for the redevelopment and it was good to see that the project is on track and progressing well.
“The Errington Community Centre and Performing Arts Facility will be an asset to the community and will meet the needs of Brimbank and St Albans residents well into the future.
“We are approaching the end of the design development phase for the design of the two-storey building.
“It will be a modern building that includes a 200–seat performance space, and spaces for a range of activities including social gatherings, planned seniors activities and Neighbourhood House programs such as IT training and arts and crafts.
“It will also feature large halls for senior’s activities, new and improved kitchens and extensive landscaping improvements.”
The design has been developed in consultation with St Albans Community Centre Cooperative Ltd (SACCC), the Errington Precinct Master Plan Implementation Community Reference Group (CRG), and representatives of a number of current user groups.
Consultation has also been completed with the broader public as part of the finalisation of the design development process.
The redevelopment is a key project in Stage 1 of the Errington Precinct Master Plan.
Construction of the Errington Community Centre and Performing Arts Facility is expected to start March 2015 and be completed in May 2016.
The total project budget includes a $2.5 million contribution from St Albans Community Centre Co-Operative and $0.5m from the State Government.
