The Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) has released the responses of the Liberal National Party (LNP), Queensland Labor and the Greens to its 10 Point Policy Plan for the 2015 Queensland state election.
Funding for vital local infrastructure projects is the centrepiece of the pitch by major political parties contesting on January 31.
Parties contesting the poll have also pledged to continue to listen to and work with local councils to ensure community needs are met.
All parties promised continued funding for local infrastructure programs and to help councils become more efficient at delivering essential services such as water treatment and regional planning.
The LNP and Labor agreed or partially agreed to most of the proposals set out in the Association’s 10 Point Plan and, significantly, both parties pledged to maintain a ministry specifically for local government.
LGAQ President Margaret de Wit thanked the major parties for their prompt response.
“It is pleasing to see that all major parties appreciate the contribution that local government makes to Queensland’s regional communities and are willing to assist in ensuring that local service delivery is done in a way which maximizes value for money to ratepayers.”
A summary of the major parties’ responses to the LGAQ’s 10 Point Plan is available at the LGAQ website.
