NBN welcomed in Orange

Orange Mayor Councillor John Davis has welcomed the announcement that Orange has been added to the National Broadband Network (NBN) roll-out.

NBN Co has announced that construction in Orange is scheduled to commence within the next 18 months to provide fibre-to-the-node connection, providing high-speed internet connections for around 16,000 premises in Orange.

“This is a fantastic announcement which is going to have major impacts on so many aspects of life in Orange”, Mayor Davis said.

“Businesses are going to able to compete on the international information superhighway with reliable connections, and they’ll become more technologically adaptable with cloud based services.

“Orange will be a level playing field with the metropolitan areas of Australia.

“IT services will no longer be held against us.

“Business to business (B2B) data transfer will be able to happen in a much more timely and reliable fashion.”

Mayor Davis said that there will be benefits for residents too.

“If potential new residents of Orange don’t feel the lifestyle connectivity is there, they are reluctant to relocate.

“For residents of Orange this will let media streaming of movies and TV happen as never before.

“Many everyday devices now rely on the internet including personal digital video recorders (PVRs), tablets, phones, media centres, lighting, air conditioning and many more. This will allow us to compete on the digital lifestyle basis with the greater metropolitan areas.

“Access to education, particularly for gifted or mature students will be enhanced by the greater access speeds and more importantly, the greater volumes that can be downloaded.”
