Police officers and firemen have entertained and inspired children aged three to eight years old at the City of Melville’s annual Safety and Sirens event.
Always a popular event, Safety and Sirens was held with nearly 200 children, parents and guardians enjoying the free sessions.
City of Melville Mayor Russell Aubrey said children loved coming along to a Safety and Sirens session to meet with real life heroes and idols.
“This is an important opportunity for children to get up close to police officers and fire fighters, and learn about the vital work they do in our community.
“Some brave youngsters even had a chance to be handcuffed, try on the firemen’s protective clothing, and experience sitting inside the police car and fire truck.
“The sessions also offered an educational and interactive way to learn about the important role police and firemen play in our community, and encouraged children and adults alike to learn about managing their own safety as well as thinking about their own home and neighbourhood.
“On behalf of the City, and everyone who attended the sessions, I would like to thank Constable Care, the Palmyra Police Station police officers and the firemen from Murdoch Fire Station for taking the time to visit our libraries for this popular and worthwhile event.”
The free activity was made possible by the City of Melville’s Community Safety Service, in conjunction with the City’s libraries.
