The Australian Local Government Women’s Association (ALGWA) has hosted their 2015 National Biennial conference in the Barossa Valley.
Held from March 25–28, the conference was an opportunity for attendees to socialise and network while hearing presentations from expert speakers.
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s chief online political writer Annabel Crabb presented the opening keynote of the conference titled ‘I Need a Wife’, in which she suggested that if women in politics got the same kind of spouses that men traditionally do, they would be better represented.
Other speakers included Chief executive of Zoos South Australia Elaine Bensted, Adelaide Airport Executive General Manager of People and Culture Sue Doyle, Workforce Planning Global Chief Executive Julie Sloan and founder of AME recruitment Allison Ashby.
Dr Jacqueline Balston from the University of South Australia also spoke on the subject of improving environmental stewardship.
The Australian Services Union’s Director of Campaigns Janet Giles also explored what makes up the Australian way of life.
At the ALGWA’s annual meeting held immediately following the event, Mayor of Boroondara Councillor Coral Ross was elected President, replacing outgoing president Kathy Bensted.
