Ensure you are immunised for World Immunisation Week

The City of Casey is stressing the importance of immunisations and encouraging residents to ensure they are up-to-date with their vaccinations in the lead up to World Immunisation Week.

Held between 24 and 30 April 2015, the week signals a global effort to accelerate action to increase awareness and demand for immunisation, and improve vaccination delivery services.

City of Casey Mayor Councillor Mick Morland said World Immunisation Week provided a timely opportunity for Council to remind residents of the importance of immunisations.

“Immunisation is the safest and most effective way of protecting the population against potentially life-threatening diseases.

“Immunisations are important to protect yourself and others against vaccine- preventable diseases, and if enough people in the community are immunised, the infection can no longer be spread from person to person.

“Council provides a free, comprehensive immunisation program to the community, particularly to infants, children and young people through community and secondary school-based programs.

“World Immunisation Week is the perfect time for residents of all ages to check that they are up-to-date with their immunisations to protect themselves and the community against harmful diseases.”

The City of Casey offers free monthly immunisation information sessions presented by a qualified immunisation nurse, free daytime and evening immunisation sessions and an adolescent Immunisation Program.

Council is also creating awareness of the importance of being immunised, particularly for adolescents, through the Vaccinate short film.

The film, which can be viewed on Council’s YouTube channel, creatively showcases the importance of adolescent vaccination and highlights why it’s important for young people’s health and the broader community.
