Dear LG Focus.
As I was reading the article by Mayor Jarvis ‘What are we trying to fix?’ (LG Focus February 2015) I at first though he was talking about the recently abandoned Local Government Reform in Western Australia.
Tasmania however was the focus, but the question ‘What are we trying to fix?’ would appear to apply all over our country.
The local government sector in Western Australia also agreed that the State Government needed to lead a willing Local Government sector.
What were we trying to fix?
During the whole lengthy process, this question was never answered.
It’s hardly surprising that the process failed.
A good leader will always articulate goals but if, as a sector, all we are told is fewer Councils is the goal, the industry will simply ask why, or in the words of mayor Jarvis ‘What were we trying to fix?’.
