NCCs 10th Biennial Bushfire Conference

More than 200 delegates, including a large contingent from local government, will come to Sydney for the 10th biennial Bushfire Conference to be held on the 26th & 27th May.

This year’s theme is Fire and Restoration, Working with Fire for healthy lands.
This multi-disciplinary conference will focus on how fire can be used to rehabilitate degraded landscapes, restore ecological integrity and reinstate resilience into the environment and the community.

Nature Conservation Council (NCC) Executive member, Rob Pallin says that the 2015 conference promises to be the best conference yet.

“The NCC bushfire conferences are unique in addressing the ecological issues related to planned and unplanned fire in Australia and in providing a forum for scientists, practitioners and land managers to share new knowledge.

“The quality and professionalism of the conference program has helped establish the NCC as a leading voice in bushfire ecology.

“We are delighted to have key note speakers Bruce Pascoe
(author of Dark Emu) Prof Lesley Hughes (Climate Council of Australia), Tein McDonald (Australian Association Bush Regenerators) and Jeremy Russell-Smith (Darwin Centre for Bushfire Research, Charles Darwin University), sharing their different perspectives on the use of fire for restoration.”

The program also feature local government experiences with integrating hazard reduction works, weed control efforts and bush regeneration activities through the use of fire.

Local government speakers include representatives of the NSW regional councils of Byron Shire and Eurobodalla Shire, and Hornsby Shire Council in Sydney.
