New LGMA National President announced

Local Government Managers Australia (LGMA) National has named Dr Shayne Silcox as the 2015 LGMA National Board president, with predecessor Mark Wither’s 12-month presidency complete.

LGMA National CEO, Lauren Oakey welcomed Dr Silcox to the organisation.

“LGMA National is looking forward to working with Dr Silcox over the next 12 months to implement a range of strategic initiatives for LGMA National in the areas of advocacy, professional development opportunities for members, practitioner driven research and further strengthening our ties with international local government agencies.”

Dr Silcox is currently the CEO of the City of Melville, one of Western Australia’s largest local governments, with an annual budget of over $153 million and physical assets of over $800 million, staff of over 765 who have a commitment to effectively service its 106,000+ Customers.

Dr Silcox’s has over 40 years’ experience in the Private, State and Local Government sectors.

Dr Silcox said of his appointment to the Board:

“It is a privilege to represent the professional officers of the sector at the national level.

“I trust my contribution positively advances the LGMA and the officers we represent.”

 LGMA National has listed its top priorities for 2015 as:

  • Delivering on a recently signed partnership between LGMA and the Australian Organisational Excellence Foundation to promote the Local Government Excellence Awards.
  • Raising the bar and supporting local government to be a strong and productive, efficient tier of government.
  • Contributing to advocacy on behalf of the Federation at the Federal Level.
  • Practitioner driven research and providing opportunities for members to shape and inform the national agenda for Local Government.
  • Encouraging members to be active in LGMA National activities, through events, thought leadership, and contributing to their quarterly digital publication, LG Manager Magazine.
