2015 Asia Pacific Cities Summit and Mayors’ Forum

Civic and business leaders from around the world have come together to discuss leadership, economic development and shared solutions at the 2015 Asia Pacific Cities Summit and Mayors’ Forum in Brisbane.

Fraser Coast Regional Council Mayor Gerard O’Connell was invited by the Lord Mayor’s Office to attend the conference.

“This is the first such forum I have attended,” he said.

“It provides an opportunity for heads of local government to share knowledge, develop solutions for issues regarding city governance and promote prosperity of cities.

“The information is invaluable and I believe it will help lead our region towards positive, innovative and liveable growth.”

The biannual forum is being held from 5 – 8 July.

More than 90 mayors are in attendance and over 100 cities represented from Africa, America, East Asia, Europe, Middle East, North East Asia, South Asia and South East Asia.

It was first held in 1996 and has been held every two years since 1999.

The Forum aims to:

•Create deepened dialogue, shared learning and strategic partnerships;

•Facilitate the exchange of information and ideas;

•Support the development of strategy and commercial partnerships;

•Provide a platform that delivers long-term economic outcomes for cities; and

•Explore new models for city development strategies.
