Mayor of The Hills Shire Andrew Jefferies visited Sun Valley Pre School in West Pennant Hills this week as a part of Local Government Week, which runs from 3–9 August.
During his visit the Mayor spoke to the children about how Council helps their community via responsible dog ownership, waste management, community safety and facility building.
“It is important that we help children understand the role we play in providing community services and facilities and promoting safety within the community,” Mayor Jefferies said.
“The visit was a great way to communicate with children and families about the areas of local government that apply to their lives, like pet ownership and local playgrounds.”
Local Government Week provides councils across NSW with an opportunity to promote its role within their communities.
This year’s theme ‘Active All Areas’ encourages council engagement across all community groups.
Mayor Jefferies acknowledged the importance of engaging with all demographics.
“Opportunities to visit different community groups like pre-school students and their teachers, reflects our commitment to all members of our community, no matter how small.”
