Central Highlands Shire motorists will be joined on the roads by a travelling cattle herd in the coming weeks.
A stock route travel permit has been approved for 1000 head of cattle to walk the Gregory Highway from Clermont to Rolleston.
The cattle will pass through Capella, Emerald and Springsure and are expected to start their journey in late August.
The journey could take some months and Council has urged motorists to be patient when encountering the herd.
Under Queensland legislation, travelling livestock have right of way on a highway and may hold up traffic for 15 minutes at a time.
Warning signs will be put in place to advise oncoming traffic of the cattle’s location and drivers are encouraged to reduce speed.
The livestock will be on the roadside during daylight hours only and will be restrained behind fences off the road during the night.
Stock routes are owned by the State Government and managed by the Central Highlands Regional Council.
