The City of Gosnells has received a $4 million grant towards construction of the Mills Park community hub and sports facility in Beckenham.
The Premier of Western Australia, the Hon Colin Barnett, recently presented the Lotterywest grant to the City’s Deputy Mayor Ron Mitchell.
It is the largest infrastructure grant by Lotterywest this year.
Construction of the City’s $47 million facility is already underway.
The grant will go towards the skate park, piazza and nature play space, plus elements of the new community facility.
Premier Barnett said that Mills Park would provide a great venue for families wanting to enjoy Perth’s outdoor lifestyle.
“Lotterywest is about improving the lives of West Australians and the City of Gosnells is making a tremendous investment in the future of its community’s health and wellbeing.
“When complete, Mills Park will also be a great attraction for the wider community.”
Councillor Mitchell said the grant is a much welcome boost to the project.
“This is a significant and vital grant for the City’s Mills Park redevelopment project, which will transform the 24ha site into one of Perth’s finest community and sporting facilities, offering great leisure opportunities for residents and visitors alike.
“It is an extremely exciting project for all those involved including the Councillors and City staff, the local sporting clubs and the surrounding community.”
The new community facility recently earned the City national recognition for becoming the first local government in Australia to achieve a six Star Green Star – Public Building Design v1 rating.
Cr Mitchell added, “this rating shows that the City of Gosnells is operating at world’s best practice.”
