Rolling out the welcome mat

Dubbo City Council makes sure new residents feel welcome.

Moving to a new city can be a daunting experience so twice annually Dubbo City Council hosts a free family-friendly welcome event to introduce new residents to Dubbo in a social and friendly atmosphere.

The latest New Residents’ Night was held on Thursday 26 November at the Western Plains Cultural Centre.

Dubbo City Council City Promotions and Events Supervisor Lana Willetts said the New Residents’ Night is a perfect opportunity to meet other new residents over light refreshments and learn more about what Dubbo offers.

“Through our City development team we have been in direct contact with 313 new residents, including 165 families, who moved to Dubbo in 2014/15. The New Residents’ Night, which is held twice a year, helps ensure these new residents can easily get involved in the community and know how to access any services they need.

“The evenings have grown in popularity as it is the perfect event to connect with other new residents and find out more about their new City.  Already more than 50 people are planning to attend on Thursday night.”

As well as a welcome from the Mayor, representatives of Dubbo’s various service providers and businesses will be on hand to provide advice and help on all of the services the City has to offer.

All the necessary information to help new residents settle into Dubbo is contained in the New Resident Guide, handed out on the evening. This includes everything from Council services through to local childcare options and sporting clubs.

Attendees also received a ‘VIP Welcome Pass’, created by partners from the New Resident Guide, which is part of the City Development Partnership Program. This pass includes a suite of special offers and will allow new residents to connect with local businesses and establish a relationship with service providers in the City.
