‘Save water, save money’ launch

From 1 July 2016 saving water will save you money in the Isaac region.

CEO Rod Ferguson said state legislation requires regions to take ownership of their utilities.

“Isaac Regional Council is required to implement a user pays model for water by July 1 next year.

“To minimise the impact of this change, Council is launching a ‘Save Water, Save Money’ campaign to provide tips and tools to help residents save water in and around their homes.”
Mr Ferguson said that the campaign would help local residents and businesses prepare and enable them to be on the front foot when the change comes.

The campaign began in November across television, radio, and print. Information is also on Council’s website and Facebook page. It will run until June next year.

“The campaign uses piggybanks fitted to taps, appliances, hoses and anywhere else residents use water around their home, to demonstrate how easy ‘saving water to save money’ can be.”

Mr Ferguson said in a recent survey, 64% of Isaac residents felt they could do more to save water to save money.

“Now is the time for residents to start thinking where their household could save and Council is going to provide a range of tips so the savings will soon add up.

“Outside our homes, we use up to 60% of our water, so following local watering times in the early morning or evening and using a water timer will provide a great start.”
