It’s a new dawn with IPWEA’s Sustainability in Public Works Conference 24-26 August 2016*

Written by Dr. Stephen Lees Director Sustainability, IPWEA Australasia

A packed program of feature speakers, new product launches, technical presentations, Q&A sessions and networking awaits those attending the second Sustainability in Public Works Conference in 2016.

Former Deputy Premier of Victoria turned sustainability leader, Professor John Thwaites, will give the conference’s opening address, blending his political and sustainability careers.

A conference highlight will be the presentation on CoastAdapt by Dr David Rissik, Deputy Director of National Climate Change Adaptation Research Facility (NCCARF). CoastAdapt brings together key results of recent coastal adaptation studies and is expected to become the de facto Australian standard for coastal adaptation planning and decision-making.

How do you value proposed green infrastructure when preparing a business case? This question will be answered by Professor Roger Jones and Dr Celeste Young whose groundbreaking approach was developed and tested at four local councils in Melbourne.

Contemporary town planning and climate resilience issues will be expertly addressed by Professor Barbara Norman, University of Canberra.

Ensuring that New Zealand’s successes are just as easily transferable across the ditch is Dr Kerry Griffith, Technical Director Sustainability at AECOM, (Wellington) who will highlight current sustainability practices in NZ.

As one of Australia’s foremost climate adaptation and sustainability experts, Michael Nolan, Chair of the UN Global Compact Cities Program will address public-private collaboration to achieve sustainability and resilience.

Featuring 68 technical presentations, with dedicated streams: sustainable communities; green infrastructure; asset management; new technologies; climate adaptation; stormwater; rating tools; street lighting & smart controls. A special feature: an extended series of presentations on sustainable roads.

This year’s conference at the Jasper Hotel – a boutique hotel close to Queen Victoria Markets – promises to be another exciting and informative conference brought to you by IPWEA. Register today to secure your place, visit www.ipwea.org/sustain2016.
