The Northern Territory Government has engaged with KPMG to work with the Northern Territory Library (NTL) to undertake a series of consultation activities in relation to the refresh of the Public Library Vision and Funding Agreement in the Northern Territory.
The outcome from this review is to include recommendations on how the Northern Territory Government can assist Councils in the delivery of their public library services from 2017/18. The debate over investment by local and State/Territory governments in the library service has been a challenge and will continue to be until agreements are reached.
Northern Territory Councils face the challenge over funding. The Northern Territory Government for 2017/18 proposes operational support and new library services across regional and remote Northern Territory.
Councils must take into their deliberations the Northern Territory Library Strategic Plan 2015-2018 and the recently released guidelines from the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) on standards and outcome measures for Australian public libraries.
LGANT is striving to achieve favourable outcomes for all communities across the Territory.
Regional and remote aerodromes are currently under review in the Northern Territory.
The review will see “a report on the issues and challenges impacting on the sustainability of remote aerodromes, as well as potential options for improving administration, management, service delivery and funding in the future” (Source: Email 30 September 2016, NT Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics).
The review by REHBEIN Airport Consulting is currently underway with a report to be submitted to the Transport and Infrastructure Council.
