Another win for synthetic sports field

Hornsby Shire Council in northern Sydney has completed a stormwater-harvesting scheme that will recycle water from a new synthetic sports field.

The water will be stored in underground tanks and used to irrigate the grass on Oval One and Oval Two at the Pennant Hills Park.

“This is a great initiative that will improve the sustainability of water use in the park, while making sure that rain on the synthetic field is not wasted,” Hornsby Shire Mayor Steve Russell said.

“It’s a shame that we can’t show you the hard work of Council’s staff in bringing this to fruition, as all of it is buried underground.

“Of course, nobody is going to complain about not seeing it because the system was designed to be discrete and unobtrusive.”

The stormwater harvesting system is the final step in the transformation of the Pennant Hills Park oval, where the new synthetic grass was installed earlier this year.

“The first season on the synthetic grass was highly successful and we’ve heard nothing but good words from the various players and their families,” Mayor Russell said.
