New online map helps residents find services

A new online map that can be used on a smartphone is helping residents find relevant Council services and public informattion in the City of Port Phillip in Melbourne.

The Near Me function on the Council webpage is being used by residents, businesses and visitors after a successful launch, making it easier for anyone to make the most of their local services and facilities.

City of Port Phillip Mayor Bernadene Voss said Council developed the web-based application to boost the accessibility and awareness of Council services around the clock, no matter where you are.

“We’re always looking at ways to improve the customer service experience for residents, businesses or visitors to Port Phillip,” Mayor Voss said.

“No matter what time of day or night it is, the new Near Me function makes it easy for you to find your nearest Council service or facility and get in touch with us online.

“You simply type in a City of Port Phillip address and the map shows you things like your local bin collection dates, eligibility for street parking, disabled and car-share parking bays, community bus routes, and maternal or child health services. “And for those interested in the real estate, you can even find out a property’s size and its date of construction.

“The function is new and while we’re excited about the benefits it is bringing we welcome any feedback from the community about other handy information they’d like to see on the Near Me map.”

At the touch of a screen or click of a mouse, the Near Me function can also be switched to ‘All’, bringing up the location of all Council services and facilities across the municipality.

The Near Me map is compatible with virtually all web-based devices including smart phones, tablets, laptops and PCs – as long as they are connected to the internet.

Other listed information on Near Me include: Childcare centres and kindergartens, community centres, parks, off-leash dog parks, playgrounds, sporting grounds, and contact details of local councillors.

The map can be found at: portphillip.vic.gov.au/near-me.htm
