Full steam ahead for steam weed control in Greater Melbourne*

Weedsteamers, Victoria’s No.1 steam-weed control specialists, are dedicated to giving municipalities across Greater Melbourne the opportunity to access non-chemical weed management programs. Weedsteamers develop customized solutions for those looking to transition away from their current herbicide practices.

Using globally patented Australian technology Weedsteamers uses non-toxic, super-heated saturated steam to kill weeds. The practice is safe for use in and around sensitive areas such as childcare centres, schools, hospitals, wetlands and wildlife habitats, does not require prior notification under government legislation, is safe for operators and the public to be in close proximity during and after treatments thus, significantly reducing occupational health and safety, environmental and legal liabilities. It can also be operated effectively in all weather conditions, maximizing productivity.

Weedsteamers, exclusive licensee for Greater Melbourne, currently work with 20 per cent of Melbourne councils managing tens of thousands of square metres of urban infrastructure, chemical free. Most significantly, City of Yarra and Bayside City Council have completely transitioned to steam around all of their play spaces and chemically sensitive areas.

The effectiveness and economic viability of steam weed management is well established. The City of Yarra found Weedsteamers, “an effective and efficient means of weed control”.

When you consider the many hidden costs of herbicide use, growing community concerns and the unique ability of steam-weeding to reduce the weed seed bank and weed re-growth, and therefore cost, it’s time for Melbourne to make the switch.
