New centre gets closer inspection at DesignBUILD 2017*

DesignBUILD is offering a rare opportunity to visit the new $1.5 billion International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney), gain behind the scenes access and hear from the contemporary venue’s key designers.

DesignBUILD will be the first dedicated architectural event to be held at ICC Sydney, which was designed by HASSELL + Populous for the New South Wales Government and its PPP (public private partnership) partner, the Darling Harbour Live consortium, comprising Lendlease, HOSTPLUS, First State Super, Capella Capital, AEG Ogden and Spotless FM tasked with creating Darling Harbour’s most exciting revitalisation project in 25 years.

The keynote speaker has been confirmed as Michael Lockwood, the Design Director of Populous’ global Convention Centre team, who will be leading two sessions in the three day education program, which has been curated through the lens of the ‘changing face of Sydney’.
Michael Lockwood will be joined by other notable speakers including:

  • Prof. Anthony Burke, University of Technology Sydney – ‘What’s New in Building Technology’
  • Georgia Sedgemen, Tract Consultants – ‘Liveable Sydney 2021’
  • David Baggs, Global Green Tag – Product Led Climate Recovery and
  • Graeme Spencer, HASSELL – ‘ICC Sydney – Transformative Facades’.

The two speaker theatres and an incubator pavilion are being designed via DesignBUILD RAW an exciting initiative launched in 2017 to showcase the very best of emerging talent. It is run in partnership with the University of New South Wales, University of Sydney and the University of Technology Sydney.

Now entering its 31st year, DesignBUILD is Australia’s leading event for architecture, building, construction and design professionals and returns to Sydney, in the brand new ICC Sydney from the 3-5 May 2017.
