The University of Technology Sydney’s Institute for Public Policy and Governance (UTS:IPPG), incorporating the Centre for Local Government (UTS:CLG), has launched a new postgraduate course in applied policy.
Offering a local government studies stream as well as a general stream, the Master of Applied Policy postgraduate program will equip students with the skills, deep knowledge and adaptive capabilities to build a career in the diverse policy terrain.
Professor Roberta Ryan, Director of UTS:IPPG and UTS:CLG said, “In developing this course we wanted to address the complex nature of the policy landscape and the need for policy professionals who are able to develop, implement and evaluate policy in practical contexts. Our new course has been designed to have a truly applied focus which is theoretically underpinned to make it both highly industry-relevant and academically robust.
“Our graduates will be equipped with trans-disciplinary policy skills that are highly applicable to a range of settings including local, state and federal government, planning, peak bodies, and community and non-government organisations. Graduates will be able to drive change and to fully understand policy from what the theorists say – to its practical application.“
Applications are now open for UTS’s July intake for postgraduate courses including the new Master of Applied Policy as well as the long-running Master of Local Government, Graduate Diploma in Local Government Management, Graduate Certificate in Local Government Leadership and Graduate Certificate in Development Assessment.
A $5,000 scholarship for the UTS Master of Applied Policy and Master of Local Government course is also open for applications.
