The West Daly region in the Northern Territory lost a leader early this month when Mayor Harold Wilson passed away.
Hailing from the community of Peppimenarti, Mayor Wilson’s career in local government spanned more than a decade and he worked as a tireless advocate for Territory communities.
Before entering local government, he acted in management roles in the Peppimenarti Health Clinic, School and Store.
He held President and Chairperson positions on the Peppimenarti Community Local Government Council, Deewin Kirim Aboriginal Corporation and as an elected member for Victoria Daly Shire Council before become the Mayor of the West Daly Regional Council.
He passed away on Sunday 2 July.
President of the Local Government Association of Northern Territory (LGANT) Damien Ryan expressed his sadness at the loss.
“On behalf of the local government community I express sincere condolences to his family.
“In a position that is hard to win accolades, the Mayor has helped build that foundation and we will miss him.”
