A new digital scoreboard in Mackay’s BB Print Stadium in Queensland promises versatile uses and new revenue opportunities for the venue.
The scoreboard is six by three metres, has more than 300,000 individual LEDs and can live-stream events.
Mackay Regional Council Mayor Greg Williamson said this new screen, which replaces the cyclone-damaged former scoreboard, would provide a boost to onsite events and the stadium as a venue.
“Not only will this add a whole new dimension to sporting games with replays, animations, live-streams, player profiles and sponsor ads, it’ll also provide opportunities for community events,” Mayor Williamson said.
“For example, it can be used for movie nights or for outdoor functions and events,” he said.
“This offers the stadium a new revenue stream and makes it more attractive as an events venue.”
Mayor Williamson said the new screen was built to the highest outdoor standards and could withstand extreme weather events.
“Unfortunately, the old scoreboard suffered water damage, but it was covered under insurance and we want to make sure this new screen is built tough for our tropical conditions.”
The digital LED scoreboard and screen was built locally in Mackay by RP Digital after they won the tender for the project.
RP Digital managing director Roger Martin said it was a great achievement for the company.
He appreciated that council and all involved had chosen a local Mackay supplier over other companies from around Australia.
