Mid-western Regional Council, New South Wales, has unveiled its new state-of-the-art mobile library van that will continue to deliver a longstanding valuable service to residents in rural and remote villages.
The new van delivers reading and audio-visual material to 270 people across the Mid-Western Region.
Council secured $80,000 in grant funding to purchase the van through the Glencore Community Investment Program.
Mayor Des Kennedy said that demand for mobile library services continues to grow.
“The service was established in February 1999 and makes weekly visits to six rural schools, seven nursing homes, two community halls and 30 housebound customers.
“In addition to providing reading resources, the van is a part of the social fabric of these outer-lying communities, providing face-to-face contact with vulnerable members of our community.
Community Relations Manager for Glencore, Craig Strudwick, said the Community Investment program will again support more than 100 community organisations in 2018 with funding of almost $5 million.
“We’re delighted to be able to help Mid-Western Regional Council open a new chapter of opportunity for people who might otherwise be unable to access these services.”
