Community called on for ideas

Newcastle City Council is offering local sporting groups and the broader community an opportunity to participate in updating one of the City’s most well utilised parks.

Residents, along with representatives of local football, softball and baseball clubs, are invited to play a part in the future design of Stevenson Park through workshops, open park drop-in sessions, a survey and online interactive tools.

The project will look at how the recreation precinct can be used to meet the changing needs of local residents, sporting clubs and the broader community.

Lord Mayor, Nuatali Nelmes, said, “Football, softball and baseball are just some of the sports that call Stevenson Park home – these and others are all invited to take part in planning for the future.

“Mayfield West residents have championed this project and are integral to building our collective vision for their local park, which is about both passive and active recreation and increasing community usage through a new inclusive playground.

“Having been involved in the design and improvement of many of our wonderful parks for many years from Islington to Blackbutt, the first step in developing the Stevenson Park masterplan and playground concept is to engage with the community to gather ideas.”

Following this initial phase of consultation, and with the support of site and feasibility analysis, Council will develop three initial concept designs for the park masterplan and proposed inclusive playground which will be open for public viewing and feedback.

The draft Stevenson Park Masterplan will be presented to Council in
September 2018.
