Goondiwindi Regional Council, Queensland, has announced the first stage of the Yelarbon Silo Art project will be completed by 30 June 2019.
The Yelarbon Community Consultation Committee has nominated a committee of local community members to support Council in bringing the project to life.
The nominated committee will consult with shortlisted artists to create concept artwork for the project, with the selected artwork to be chosen by a community vote.
The vision for the project is for the Yelarbon silos to be nationally recognised as a high quality artwork and an iconic art destination.
The selected artwork will be site-specific and must capture the character, culture and identity of Yelarbon and its place in the Goondiwindi Regional Council area.
The application asked artists to consider the local landscape, character, heritage and history, along with the artwork’s relevance for today and for generations to come.
Once completed Yelarbon will join Australia’s growing silo art movement which takes tourists on a journey from Northam in the west through Kimba, South Australia and Victoria’s Brim where the phenomenon began, then northward through the New South Wales town of Weethalle and on to Thallon in Balonne Shire, Queensland, which was amongst those featured on an Australia Post stamp series in 2018.
