Councils welcome public feedback

Whyalla’s mayor Clare McLaughlin welcomes input from the public for local government review.

The South Australian Government is undertaking a review of the legislation under which councils operate, inviting the public to forward ideas on key areas for reform.

Whyalla City Mayor, Clare McLaughlin, has welcomed the Government’s call for input and has urged the people of Whyalla to get involved.

A survey on the Government YourSAy website allows the public to put forward ideas for key local government reform measures.

“This is a great initiative by the State Government as it looks to improve council operations throughout South Australia and help ratepayers.

“As a council, we pride ourselves on our commitment to the community, efficient operation, financial accountability, regulation and transparency.

“This is a great chance for the community to fill out a report card on Council as we, as always, welcome and encourage feedback on everything we do, and need to do, for our community.

“If there’s anything we could do better, we’d love to hear about it with some constructive feedback.”

Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Local Government, Stephan Knoll, said, “Councils play an important part in delivering for our local communities and that’s why it’s crucial we have community input throughout the reform process.

“These ideas will contribute towards discussions papers that will be released in the middle of the year.

“Earlier this year we also held a round table with the local government sector and are currently awaiting their feedback about the changes that would like to see within their own sector.”

The Government will introduce its proposed legislative reforms to Parliament later this year.
