Brisbane City Council ‘greening up’ the 2019APCS

Brisbane City Council will manifest its green credentials on a global scale when it hosts the 2019 Asia Pacific Cities Summit (2019APCS) and Mayors’ Forum next month.

‘Sustainability of Cities’ is one of the four program themes being presented at the Summit, shining the spotlight on building resilient and healthy cities, covering topics including sustainable technologies, waste minimisation, future challenges and renewable energy for cities.

Chairperson of Joint United States China Collaboration on Clean Energy and one of the world’s leading sustainability catalysts, Peggy Liu, will headline the event as a keynote speaker, sharing her insights on sustainable urbanisation.

Liu has a passion for connecting personal and planetary health, with a long-term vision to use technology to improve the living standards of people around the world.

She believes cultural translators have the most important roles in the next generation and that those who can create a better future should.

Council is also delivering on the sustainable message throughout the Summit by supplying reusable water bottles, recycling stations and free water re-filling fountains, as well as using lanyards and name badges manufactured from natural and recycled materials.

Plastic bags and straws, balloons and single-use water bottles will be omitted from the event.

More than 1000 delegates representing over 100 cities are expected to attend this year’s Summit which will bring together mayors, city leaders, policy makers, chief executives, urban planners and other business, industry and emerging leaders.

The overarching theme of the 2019APCS is ‘Driving Cities through Business and Innovation’, and it aims to bring governments and businesses together to identify a common agenda, improve city governance and promote trade and investment opportunities in the Asia Pacific Region.

The 2019APCS is a unique opportunity for Brisbane businesses to connect with global decision makers and help shape the Asia Pacific region’s urban agenda as well as develop trade ties in one of the fastest growing regions in the world.
